FAIRFIELD DAILY REPUBLIC -- Fairfield High School senior Jomar Lopes posed for pictures with his family after claiming the Ella C. Owens Jennings Memorial Scholarship. The oldest of three children, Lopes hopes to serve as a mentor to his younger brother and sister. “I want them to go to college, succeed and pursue their dreams,” he said, as they stood nearby. His paternal grandmother was also there for the proud moment. Parents Latisha Lopes and Jomar Lopes Sr. said they were pleased their son’s hard work paid off. “It’s rewarding,” Latisha Lopes said of her son’s scholarship. “It was a lot of study and hard work,” Jomar Lopes Sr. said. He’s headed off to San Francisco State to study English and Journalism and hopes to become an attorney.
