SF State’s quartet-in-residence, the Alexander String Quartet, join forces with the Laurentian Singers of St. Lawrence University and the University Chorus of SF State for Paul Siskind’s String Quartet No. 3 “Metamorphoses” and more. March 18, 1:10 – 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Free.
The Alexander String Quartet has performed in the major music capitals of five continents, securing its standing among the world’s premier ensembles, and a major artistic presence in its home base of San Francisco, serving since 1989 as ensemble in residence of San Francisco Performances and directors of the Morrison Chamber Music Center at SF State. Widely admired for its interpretations of Beethoven, Mozart and Shostakovich, the quartet’s recordings have won international critical acclaim.
A select chamber choir of undergraduates from St. Lawrence University, the Laurentian Singers continue a 72-year legacy of choral excellence, performing regularly throughout the year on campus, in the community and nationally and internationally on tour every year during spring break. Their far-ranging repertoire is drawn from the entire span of Euro-American classical traditions as well as world and popular idioms.
