Upon entering SF State last fall, graduate student Jessica Mejia was immediately impressed by the support she received from faculty and peers. She represents the Comparative and World Literature Department in the fifth episode of the College of Liberal & Creative Arts’ video series, “Next Stop.”

“I feel everyone in my department has a way of expressing their passions and leaving room for you to express yours,” she says, “and support you in whatever it is you want to do.”

Mejia appreciates the autonomy that the department provides to students in building their areas of focus.

To complement her studies, she works for the International Flor y Canto Literary Festival, which provides a forum for emerging poets of the Mission District and Latino community. Mejia helps organize readings and workshops and manages its website.
