Alum Sandra Lyon is Palm Springs Unified's New Superintendent

THE DESERT SUN (PALM SPRINGS) -- “I’m so excited and honored to be here,” she said. “This is the right time in the right community for me, and I’m looking forward to working with the board and leadership team in improving parent engagement, closing the achievement gap and working closely with all stakeholders. This presents me with the opportunity to serve a district where equity issues and student achievement are the unwavering focus of the full school community.” Lyon, 54, is in her 28th year in education. She served as chief leadership officer for the Palmdale School District for two years and was superintendent/principal of Hughes-Elizabeth Lakes School District in Antelope Valley for three years. She has also served as an English and language arts teacher, Title 1 coordinator/at-risk teacher, elementary and middle school principal and director of curriculum, instruction and assessment. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from San Francisco State University.
