Professor McDaniel: San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee Still Popular

SAN FRANCISCO MAGAZINE -- Part of the answer to those questions lays in the relative strength of Lee’s public standing: The mayor is mostly perceived as doing a pretty decent job. Though complaints about the changing fabric of San Francisco are endemic, as are concerns about housing prices and the cost of living, the city's most likely voters don’t seem to be placing those woes at the feet of the mayor. “Although Ed Lee’s popularity and approval are down from their stratospheric heights,” says SF State Political Science Assistant Professor Jason McDaniel, “he is still relatively popular, presides over a city with a booming economy, and has built electoral coalitions to deal with potential fiscal crises.”
