Josie Iselin: An Ocean Garden

Monday, January 27, 2014 - Tuesday, July 1, 2014
Seaweed image by Josie Iselin
In this exhibition and her latest book, artist and avid beachcomber Josie Iselin celebrates the unexpected beauty of seaweed, an often overlooked but fundamental aspect of ocean life. Produced on a flatbed scanner, Iselin's vibrant portraits of ocean flora reveal the exquisite color and extraordinary forms of more than two hundred specimens gathered from tidal pools along the California and Maine coasts. Like her previous books, An Ocean Garden: The Secret Life of Seaweed is a poetic and compelling tribute to the natural world and the wonder it evokes. Hours: Mondays through Fridays, 8am to 6pm. Reception and book signing: April 4, 3pm to 5pm. Free.
Administration Building, Alumni Hall Gallery

Her mission is to produce enticing, original and well-designed books that combine art and science, leaving the reader with new information about, and an appreciation for, the world around them. Iselin began her art career in photography and installation art, exhibiting throughout the Bay Area in the 1990s.
